Stress Less

Holidays behind us, a new year ahead of us, many of us are already wearing our shoulders in our ears! It’s a perpetual state for many people and the fruit of this condition is evident in the number of times we yell at our kids, our significant others, even the unknowing drivers in front of us. There are other ways to tell if you are stressed.

How is your strength? Are you breathing? (Rhetorical question.) Most people don’t do this well. Shallow, rapid, breathing can lead to back pain, anxiety, digestive issues and other body stress that manifests in unprecedented symptoms. Healthy breathing sends receptors to the brain that slow us down and even bring pleasure!

If you are running into furniture and yawning all day, this is a good indicator that either you are not getting good sleep or you are not getting oxygen to all of your body. Exercise is a great help to correct shallow breathing, but you would be surprised how many people in your power circuit class are not breathing to their full capacity. Our strength is also a factor of what we eat! Yikes!! That’s a whole different article!

How’s your soul? Are you at peace or do you find yourself at war with the world on a daily basis? At the very least, we all run into mini skirmishes every day. We can view these as opposition or opportunities! Sometimes a challenging person or situation is a God given exercise for the soul. When we respond to life at peace and without anxiety, what a difference it makes!

Life throws enough stress at us without adding a list of should and wants. If you are feeling overwhelmed with all you need to do to take care of yourself, take this to heart: simplify. Learn to breathe again. If you're not sure how to do that, join us at Holy Yoga in Monument, CO, on Mondays and Wednesdays at 9am.
